A Welcome

Thank you for taking your valuable time to visit our web page and get to know us a little bit better!
When I first learned that I had been appointed to First United Methodist Church of Bixby, my first thoughts were of beautiful pumpkins piled high, bushels of corn and bins filled to overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables. I didn’t know very much about our congregation. When I came to Bixby for my first introduction, I had never even seen the church building! Like you, I was an explorer to our church!
When I arrived, I found a very caring and loving congregation.
In the first eleven weeks of my ministry at First Methodist, we had nine deaths in our congregation. I watched beautiful folks embrace one another in love and shower our grieving families with food and comfort. Not only did I watch them love each other, I also felt the flood of that gracious care for my family and me. Friendships and relationships are cherished in this church family and we are eager to expand our circle to include you! Many in our church have said that when they started attending a Sunday School class, they really got to know people better. You might want to check out our list of Sunday School Classes.

When I came to Bixby, I also found a people who are fervent in wanting to know God better and be closer to Christ! This journey of following Christ is so much easier when there are others walking beside us! On Sunday mornings, our time of worship and preaching feeds and nourishes us for the week ahead. I find myself strengthened by the music, prayers and the lifting up of Scripture. I sure do need that each week –
and I’m the preacher! I hope you’ll make yourself at home, either at our 8:30 a.m. service, if you like a more praise and worship approach, or at our 11:00 service if a more traditional style fits you. After each worship service, we have a “Visitor’s Time with the Pastors” in Room 110 down the south hall from the sanctuary. It is a time for us to get to know you a bit and see what brought you to our church.
Wednesday nights are times of fellowship and learning. We have a Family Night Supper beginning at 5:00 in the gym. It is a good time just to chat and enjoy getting to know a few other people. At 6:30 p.m., we hold our Adult Bible Studies, youth activities and a great kids program.
At our church, we believe that prayer makes a difference! In the years that I have served our congregation, we have had prayer groups, prayer vigils and daily prayer calendars. And we have seen God do amazing things – in the lives of individuals and in the life of our church! In my own difficult times, I have felt the powerful presence of God as our church lifted me to God in prayer. Don’t hesitate to let us know if you are need of encouragement through prayer. Drop a note in our Prayer Bowl before the first song ends in worship, come to the “Visitor’s Time with the Pastors”, or request prayer online from right here and we will pray for you. Our church has a special prayer time Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Join us to be lifted up – or to pray for others. Also, our staff is in prayer every Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and we would love to pray for you!
We are a church that loves kids! With a wonderful labor of love of the people for the children, we have turned our children’s area into “King’s Dominion”! From the moment our children enter, they begin to understand that they are much-loved children in a royal family of God! We have “rotational Sunday School.” The idea is that each week for five weeks, the children study the same Bible story in different formats and different rooms. There is a “You Do The News!” room for a mock TV broadcast, a theater with costumes to act out the story, a cooking, craft and art room, a puppet room, a computer room, and a music room! The kids are having a blast while they discover the powerful love of God!
When I came to our church, I also found a people who had a strong presence in the community. One of my favorite experiences my first week at the church was unlocking all the buildings by myself and discovering rooms filled with food and clothing for the poor. I whispered under my breath, “What kind of wonderful church is this?” I had discovered our Care Center. I soon learned that we have been giving away food and clothes for decades. Some families rely on our provision just to get by each month.
As you can tell, I love our church deeply. Not because we are a perfect church or perfect people – but because we are clear that our hope is in Christ. I praise God that He loves us unconditionally! He meets us right where we are and helps us learn to rely on Him.
I am so thankful that you are exploring our church! We would love to get to know you better and let you continue to get to know us. We believe that each person has a unique blend of gifts, passion and personality. As you spend time with us, you will contribute to the church that we are becoming! We would love that!
