Adult Christian Education Offerings, 2011

 *Random Acts of Kindness – this group engages in acts of service and mission.  Some time is spent discussing readings about mission, planning, and executing local mission projects in the Bixby community.  There is no charge to take the class, just a need to be willing to serve others.  Facilitated by Dalene Wells and members of the Bixby FUMC mission team.

 *What’s So Amazing about Grace by Philip Yancey – “There is nothing we can do to make God love us more.  There is nothing we can do to make God love us less.”  We speak of grace often but do we truly understand it?  Most importantly, do we truly believe in it…and do our lives proclaim it as powerfully as our words? This is a class about grace – what it looks like, and what it doesn’t look like…and why Christians can and must reveal the grace the world is looking for and desperately needs.  Rev. Mark Whitley facilitates this 14-week class.  The book is optional but recommended; cost is $10. Room # 108

 *Threshold – is a four-week assimilation class for visitors and new members.  Facilitated by Rev. Mark Whitley, Threshold presents faith as a process and also provides an overview of what makes the United Methodist Church distinct through an overview of the history of the Christian church. The class ends with helping you find a place to serve at Bixby FUMC. This free class begins the first week of May following the completion of the What’s So Amazing About Grace class.        Room # 108

 *Following Jesus – Steps to a Passionate Faith by Caroline Slaughter – This “Christianity 101” class is the what’s next after the Threshold class.  It reviews the person and work of Jesus Christ, discusses the nature and role of the Holy Spirit, and helps discern your place of service in God’s Kingdom.  Rev. Randy Mitchell leads the 12-session study.  Book cost is $10.  Room # 205

 *Experiencing God – Knowing and Doing the Will of God by Henry T. Blackaby & Claude V. King – More than just another “how to” book, Experiencing God will help you draw closer to God and the purpose God has for your life.  Learn to hear when God is speaking to you.  Find out where God is working and join Him there.  Experience God doing through you what only God can do.  This 13-week course is facilitated by Kevin & Kim Bonifield.  A workbook is necessary; cost is $14.      Room # 109

 Growing Kids God’s Way – Richard & Susan Ekhoff will lead this class.  Growing Kids God’s Way is a comprehensive values-based parenting curriculum. Room 206
