Registration for the exciting 2011 Upward Flag Football and Cheerleading league is now underway!  Our sports league is for boys and girls, PreK through 7th grade. Our goal is to provide a first-class sports experience that emphasizes healthy competition, sportsmanship, skills building and fun versus the "win-at-all-costs" mentality found in many children sports leagues.  

Some unique features to Upward Sports are: 

• Each child is evaluated before the team selection process to create balanced teams that are competitive. 
• A unique substitution system which guarantees every child equal playing time. 
• We aim to teach both athletic skill as well as values for success on and off the playing field. 
• We prioritize a family friendly schedule by conducting one-hour practices and games each week.
• With supportive coaches and a positive sports environment, we strive to bring out "the winner" in every child regardless of the game's score.

How Do I Sign Up?
There are three easy ways to sign up your child for our exciting league:

Onsite Registration and Player Evaluation Day (preferred)
Every child who participates in flag football and cheerleading must attend one of the following player evaluation days.  During evaluations, children will be sized up for their uniform.  Cheerleaders will participate in an orientation and discuss season expectations.  Football players will participate in skill set drills to help with team development.  This year's evaluation dates will take place on:

Saturday, May 7, 2011, anytime between 9am-noon

Saturday, May 28, 2011, anytime between 9am-noon

Saturday, June 18, 2011, anytime between 9am-noon

Drop off at the Church Office
The registration form, along with your child's registration fee, may be dropped off at the church office between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

We understand keeping children engaged in after school activities is important.  That's why we keep our Upward league registration fees as low as possible.

The Registration fee for Football per child is only $85.  With your child's registration fee they will receive:

• Player Jersey, Shorts, and T-shirt
• Scriptunes Music CD
• Scripture learning Card Holder
• A Parent's Guide to Upward Flag Football Flyer
• Car Magnet
• Team Upward.com Flag Football Practice Card

The Registration fee for Cheerleading per child is only $85.  With your child's registration fee they will receive:

• Cheer Top and Skort
• A Parent's Cheerleading Orientation Flyer
• Scripture Learning Card Holder
• Car Magnet
• Hair Ribbon
• Pom-Poms
• Megaphone
• TeamUpward.com Cheerleading Practice Card

About Practices and Games
Football players will practice on either Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evening depending on the day you select.  Practices can last up to 1 hour and 15 minutes (this includes football practice and devotions).  Games are are made up of 4 quarters with each quarter lasting 10 minutes (running clock).  For the 2011 season we are going to try and expand play time from 10 minute quarters to 12 minute quarters to increase the fun (this is still under discussion as we work out the details)

Cheerleaders will practice on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings depending on the day you select.  Practices can last up to 1 hour and 15 minutes (this includes cheer practice and devotions).  Games will follow the same outline as described in the paragraph above.  Cheerleaders will lead the fans with various chants, halftime routines, and even find the fan with the most spirit to hand out the spirit stick award!
